Symphony no. 14
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & BBC National Orchestra of Wales & Joan Rodgers & John Tomlinson & Mark Wigglesworth
Symphony No. 14 is the fourteenth symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1969. Scored for soprano, bass and a chamber ensemble and setting a cycle of poems, the work is stark and sombre in tone with concise movements that emphasise vocal declamation and restrained orchestral colour, representing a late-period turn towards more condensed, introspective forms in Shostakovich's output.
