A Child of Our Time is an oratorio by English composer Michael Tippett, completed in 1941 and first performed in 1944. The work is a large-scale choral-orchestral composition that blends tonal and modernist elements and incorporates African-American spirituals as a structural and emotional counterpoint, written in response to the political crises of its era and marking Tippett's emergence as a significant figure in mid-20th-century British music.
