The Planets, op. 32
Album by Gustav Holst & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Sir Adrian Boult
The Planets, Op. 32 is an orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. Scored for a large orchestra, the seven-movement suite uses varied orchestral colours, prominent brass and percussion, modal harmonies and shifting metres to characterise astrological figures, and it represents Holst's move from chamber and choral music into ambitious orchestral composition during the First World War era.
First released: 1989
