Harold en Italie

Album by Hector Berlioz & Orchestre de l’ Opéra Bastille & Myung-Whun Chung

Harold en Italie is a symphony with a solo viola by French composer Hector Berlioz, composed in 1834. Rooted in the Romantic tradition and conceived as programme music, it features inventive orchestral colours and an expanded solo role that blurs the boundary between concerto and symphony and occupies an important place in Berlioz's exploration of orchestration and large-scale programme forms.
