String Quartet Op. 130 and Grosse Fuge

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & The Medici Quartet

String Quartet Op. 130 and the Grosse Fuge are late string-quartet works by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed and published in 1826. They are characterised by dense counterpoint, bold formal experimentation and an intense harmonic language, with the Grosse Fuge originally conceived as the quartet's final movement but later published separately, and together they represent a key phase in Beethoven's late-period exploration of the string quartet medium.
