Le Prophète is a grand opera by German composer Giacomo Meyerbeer, premiered in 1849. The work exemplifies the grand opéra tradition with expansive orchestration, prominent choral writing and elaborate stage effects, and it occupies an important place in Meyerbeer's output as a large-scale mid-19th-century French operatic composition that helped define the genre's theatrical and musical conventions.
