Piano Quintets, opp. 5 and 81
Album by Antonín Dvořák & Vlachovo kvarteto Praha & Ivan Klánský
Piano Quintets opp. 5 and 81 are two piano quintets by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, composed in 1872 and 1887 respectively. They illustrate Dvořák's evolution from his early Romantic chamber style to a more mature voice that blends lyrical, folk-influenced melodies with rich harmonic language and an expanded dialogue between piano and strings, the later quintet showing greater formal refinement and orchestral breadth.
First released: October 2002
