Symphony no. 9 D major
Album by Gustav Mahler & WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln & Jukka‐Pekka Saraste
Symphony No. 9 in D major is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909–1910 and premiered in 1912. Scored for a large late-Romantic orchestra, it features wide-ranging dynamics, dense and transparent textures, expansive slow movements and driving scherzos that probe themes of mortality and farewell, and it is Mahler's final completed symphony reflecting a transition in orchestral language at the close of the Romantic era.
