Des Knaben Wunderhorn is a song cycle by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed between 1887 and 1898. The work sets German folk and poetic texts in a hybrid Lied-orchestral idiom, combining rustic folk elements, muted brass and plangent orchestration with abrupt shifts of mood that bridge his earlier songs and his later symphonies.
