Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. Scored for soloists, choir and orchestra in the Baroque idiom, it blends recitative, aria and large-scale choral writing with Biblical texts and occupies a pivotal place in Handel's output and in the Western choral tradition.
