Symphony no. 7 “Leningrad”
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Wiener Symphoniker & Eliahu Inbal
Symphony No. 7 in C major, Op. 60, "Leningrad" is a symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and first performed in 1942. Marked by expansive orchestral forces, recurring march-like motifs and vast climactic writing juxtaposed with sombre slow passages, the work is often linked to the wartime siege of Leningrad and represents a major wartime statement in Shostakovich's output and in mid-20th-century symphonic repertoire.
