13 Nocturnes

Album by Gabriel Fauré & Germaine Thyssens-Valentin

13 Nocturnes is a cycle of thirteen piano nocturnes by French composer Gabriel Fauré, composed between the 1870s and 1921. The pieces chart the composer’s development from late-Romantic lyricism to a more harmonically adventurous, pared-back late style, characterised by refined pianistic textures, modal inflections and an economy of gesture that situates them as a significant strand in early 20th-century French piano music.
