A Midsummer Night's Dream
Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Orlanda Velez Isidro & Manuela Moniz & Coro Gulbenkian & Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century & Frans Brüggen
A Midsummer Night's Dream is incidental music by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1842 for Shakespeare's play. Rooted in the early Romantic tradition, the orchestral score employs bright, fleet textures, lyrical melodies and delicate woodwind and string writing to evoke a fairylike atmosphere, and it occupies a notable place in Mendelssohn's output as a key example of 19th-century stage music and orchestral colour.
