Symphony nr. 2 "Asrael" / Legend of the Dead Victors

Album by Josef Suk & Belgian National Orchestra & Walter Weller

Symphony No. 2 'Asrael' (Legend of the Dead Victors) is the second symphony by Czech composer Josef Suk, composed between 1900 and 1901. The expansive late-Romantic work is characterised by sombre orchestration, chromatic harmony and long-breathed thematic unfolding that convey an elegiac, funerary atmosphere tied to personal bereavement, marking a turning point towards more introspective, programme-driven writing in Suk's career.
