The Apostles
Album by Edward Elgar & Canterbury Choral Society & Philharmonia Orchestra & Richard Cooke
The Apostles is an oratorio by English composer Edward Elgar, first performed in 1903. Scored for soloists, chorus and orchestra, it employs late-Romantic harmonies, expansive orchestral textures and recurring thematic material to dramatise apostolic narratives, and is part of Elgar's series of large-scale choral-orchestral works from the early 20th century.
