Symphonies nos. 1 & 6
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Vladimir Ashkenazy
Symphonies Nos. 1 & 6 are orchestral works by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1924–25 and 1939 respectively. The first is an early, concise symphony that blends youthful wit and neoclassical clarity, while the sixth is more episodic and introspective, juxtaposing expansive slow passages with abrupt, taut orchestral textures and signalling a turn toward darker, more personal expression in his symphonic writing.
