Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944, known as 'The Great', is a symphony by Austrian composer Franz Schubert, composed in 1825–1826. The work is a large-scale orchestral composition in a late Classical to early Romantic idiom, characterised by expansive structures, broad lyrical themes and rich orchestration, and it marks a significant development in Schubert's symphonic writing toward a grander formal scope.
