Piano Quartets K. 478 & K. 493
Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Malcolm Bilson & Elizabeth Wilcock & Jan Schlapp & Timothy Mason
Piano Quartets K. 478 and K. 493 are two piano quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in 1785 and 1786. They combine Classical-era clarity and intimate chamber textures for piano, violin, viola and cello, featuring contrasts of lyricism and stormy harmonic turns, and mark a key development in Mozart's later chamber music and in the establishment of the piano-quartet repertoire.
