A Faust Symphony
Album by Franz Liszt & BBC Philharmonic & The Britten Singers & Jascha Horenstein & John Mitchinson
A Faust Symphony is a symphonic work by Franz Liszt, composed between 1854 and 1857. The three-movement, programme-driven work uses late-Romantic orchestral writing to portray characters from Goethe's Faust, employing chromaticism, expanded tonality and inventive orchestration that contextualises Liszt's development towards the symphonic poem and his later experimental tendencies.
