Symphonie Nº 7 “Leningrad”
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & National Symphony Orchestra & Mstislav Rostropovich
Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad' is the seventh symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and first performed in 1942. A large-scale wartime symphony for full orchestra, it juxtaposes expansive lyrical passages with march-like and militaristic material and other sonic contrasts to evoke the siege of Leningrad, serving as a major document of Shostakovich's wartime output.
