Sonatas for Cello & Piano, nos. 3, 4, 5

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Pau Casals & Rudolf Serkin

Sonatas for Cello & Piano, Nos. 3–5 are a set of three cello sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1808 (No. 3) and 1815 (Nos. 4 and 5). They occupy Beethoven's middle-to-late period and combine Classical sonata structures with expanded harmonic language, increased technical demands and a more equal, conversational role for the cello and piano, reflecting a movement toward more introspective and formally experimental chamber music.
