Symphony No. 9 'From the New World' and the Symphonic Variations are orchestral works by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, composed in 1893 and 1877 respectively. The Ninth, written during Dvořák's American period, blends late-Romantic orchestration with broad, folk-influenced melodies and modal harmonies reflecting North American and Bohemian elements, while the earlier Symphonic Variations present a sequence of thematic variations that explore motivic transformation, rhythmic vitality and inventive orchestral colour, each work marking an important stage in his development as a symphonist and composer of large-scale instrumental forms.
