Swan Lake is a ballet by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, premiered in 1877. The score is rooted in the Romantic tradition, featuring sweeping, lyrical melodies, vivid orchestral colour, leitmotif-like themes and dance forms, and it represents one of Tchaikovsky's early full-length ballet works that influenced later developments in ballet music.
