Solemn Vespers of the Confessor, K. 339 / Mass in C, K. 317

Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Banchetto Musicale & Martin Pearlman

Solemn Vespers for the Feast of the Confessor, K. 339, and the Mass in C major, K. 317, are sacred choral works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed in 1780 and 1779 respectively. Both pieces employ Classical-era liturgical forms and orchestral colours, combining choir and solo voices with strings and winds in a balanced, formal idiom that reflects Mozart's liturgical output and his activities in Salzburg at the close of the 1770s and start of the 1780s.
