Sonatas for Cello and Piano

Album by Johannes Brahms & Miklós Perényi & Zoltán Kocsis

Sonatas for Cello and Piano is a pair of chamber works by Johannes Brahms, composed in the mid-1860s (Op.38) and 1886 (Op.99). Rooted in Romantic-era chamber music, they combine lyrical melodic writing, rich harmonic textures and formal rigor that reflect Brahms's mature approach to the cello–piano duo and exemplify his contribution to nineteenth-century chamber repertoire.
