Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & André Previn & Emanuel Ax
Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 are a pair of piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in the late 1790s and first published in 1801. Musically they sit within the Classical concertante tradition while pointing towards the early Romantic style, combining virtuosic piano writing, lyrical slow movements and close interplay between soloist and orchestra, and they represent an important early stage in Beethoven's development as he expanded the concerto form.
