Symphony No. 2 / Karelia Suite
Album by Jean Sibelius & Berliner Philharmoniker & Radion sinfoniaorkesteri & Okko Kamu
Symphony No. 2 and the Karelia Suite are orchestral works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed in 1902 and 1893 respectively. They are rooted in late Romantic orchestration with strong Finnish folk influence, the symphony offering broad thematic development and the suite presenting brisk, march-like episodes, and together they show Sibelius moving from earlier nationalist pieces toward a more individual symphonic voice.
