Symphony No. 13 'Babi Yar' is the thirteenth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed and premiered in 1962. Scored for orchestra, bass soloist and male chorus, the choral symphony employs dark, brooding orchestration and declamatory vocal writing to set a sequence of stark, politically charged texts, marking a move in Shostakovich's output towards more overt social commentary in his later career.
