Symphony no. 2 / The Rock
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Evgeny Fyodorovich Svetlanov
Symphony No. 2 and The Rock are orchestral works by Sergei Rachmaninov, composed in 1907 and 1893 respectively. The larger symphony is late-Romantic, lyrical and broad in orchestration while The Rock is a shorter, dramatic programme piece with rugged motifs, and together they show Rachmaninov's move toward denser harmonic writing and a greater emphasis on orchestral colour in his mature output.
