Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) is a song cycle by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909. The work fuses symphonic orchestration with solo vocal writing set to translated Chinese poetry, employing late‑Romantic harmonic language, rich orchestral colour and contemplative, existential themes that mark a pivotal point in Mahler's late output and in the development of early 20th‑century orchestral song.
