Stabat Mater

Album by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi & Margaret Marshall & Lucia Valentini Terrani & London Symphony Orchestra & Claudio Abbado

Stabat Mater is a sacred choral composition by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, composed in 1736. Scored for soprano and alto soloists with strings and continuo, it combines operatic lyricism with devotional restraint and, composed near the end of Pergolesi's short life, helped shape the galant approach to 18th-century sacred vocal music.
