Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4

Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan

Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 are orchestral works by Felix Mendelssohn, the Third completed in 1842 and the Fourth completed in 1833. Both sit within the early Romantic repertoire, the Third characterised by a sombre, processional orchestral palette and the Fourth by sunnier, more rhythmic Mediterranean-inflected textures, together illustrating Mendelssohn's movement from Classical formal clarity towards greater Romantic expressiveness.
