Romeo and Juliet is a ballet score by Sergei Prokofiev composed in 1935 and 1936. The work is rooted in late Romantic and early modern orchestral language, with lyrical themes, bold harmonies, driving rhythms and varied orchestral colours that support its dramatic narrative, and it is one of Prokofiev's major stage works from the period when he returned to the Soviet Union.
