Elijah is an oratorio by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn, premiered in 1846. The work blends Romantic harmonic language with Baroque-influenced choral techniques to set Old Testament texts, employing dramatic solos, expansive choruses and expressive orchestration, and it occupies a central place in Mendelssohn's output as a major large-scale vocal work of the mid-19th century.
