Peer Gynt is the incidental music by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg for Henrik Ibsen's dramatic poem, composed in 1875. The score uses Romantic-era orchestration, lyrical themes and elements of Norwegian folk music to accompany the stage drama, and it occupies a significant place in Grieg's output and in the development of programme music and musical nationalism in the late 19th century.
