Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral" / Symphony No. 8
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Chamber Orchestra of Europe & Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Symphony No. 6 and Symphony No. 8 are orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1808 and 1812 respectively. The Sixth employs programme-like evocations of rural life with lyrical themes and prominent woodwind colour, while the Eighth is more concise and classically proportioned with brisk rhythmic character, and together they reflect Beethoven's engagement with both programme elements and a return to lighter classical forms during his middle period.
