Symphony no. 11 "The Year 1905"

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Vladimir Mikhailovich Jurowski & London Philharmonic Orchestra

Symphony No. 11 "The Year 1905" is the eleventh symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1957. The work is a programme symphony for large orchestra that employs sombre, march-like motifs, vivid orchestral colour and evocative passages to portray the events of the 1905 Russian Revolution, and it forms part of Shostakovich's 1950s output in which he engaged directly with historical and political subjects in symphonic form.
