Symphony no. 2
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Vladimir Ashkenazy
Symphony No. 2 is the second symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, premiered in 1927. The work is a large-scale orchestral and choral piece that employs modernist and avant-garde techniques, dissonant harmonies and elements of political cantata, reflecting his experimental early period and occupying an exploratory place in his symphonic output that foreshadows methods he developed later.
