Symphony no. 7, the "Leningrad"
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Royal Scottish National Orchestra & Neeme Järvi
Symphony No. 7, 'Leningrad', is the seventh symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1941. The four-movement orchestral work employs expansive, march-like themes, dense orchestration and motifs evoking the Siege of Leningrad, and it is representative of Shostakovich's wartime output and of 20th-century symphonic responses to conflict.
