Brandenburg Concertos nos. 1-4
Album by Johann Sebastian Bach & Academy of St Martin in the Fields & Sir Neville Marriner
The Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 1–4 are four of the six concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach, presented together as a collection dedicated to the Margrave of Brandenburg in 1721. They exemplify Baroque concerto grosso practice, featuring contrasting groups of soloists and ensemble, diverse instrumental colours and contrapuntal textures, and they occupy an important place in Bach's output and in the development of early 18th-century instrumental music.
