Messiah, HWV 56 is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work is in the baroque style and combines strong choral passages, a range of solo material, varied orchestral textures and dramatic recitative, and it was composed when Handel shifted his focus from Italian opera to English-language oratorio.
