Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work, rooted in the Romantic tradition, employs vivid pictorial gestures, contrasting character pieces and recurring linking passages to depict an artist's exhibition, and it subsequently became a staple of the orchestral and arrangement repertoire with an influential role in the development of programme music.
