Sequential

Sequential is an American synthesizer company founded by Dave Smith in San Francisco in 1974 as Sequential Circuits. The company created the Prophet-5, the first fully programmable polyphonic synthesizer, and was instrumental in developing the MIDI standard alongside Roland. After going out of business in 1987, Smith founded Dave Smith Instruments in 2002. Yamaha returned the Sequential name in 2015, and the company rebranded as Sequential in 2018. It was acquired by Focusrite in 2021. Dave Smith passed away in 2022.
