Progressive Jazz

Progressive Jazz blossomed in the 1960s, primarily in the United States and the UK, when musicians decided that just being good at improvisation wasn’t enough; they had to make it sound like an intellectual puzzle too. Think of it as jazz on a quest for meaning, blending genres like rock and classical—essentially the music version of wearing a monocle whilst sipping tea. With complex time signatures and daring harmonies, it often sounds like the band is having a playful argument about who can throw in the most unexpected notes and still call it music.
