Pop Punk

Pop Punk originated in the late 1970s, primarily in the USA, as a cheeky blend of punk's rebellious spirit and the catchy melodies of pop music; quite an audacious union, really, considering punks weren't meant to grin. Characterised by energetic guitar riffs, youthful angst, and lyrics about everything from heartbreak to social gripes, it can sound both joyous and slightly like a teenager having an existential crisis. This genre peaked in popularity in the early 2000s, proving that it was possible to channel your inner angst whilst still being radio-friendly, a true marvel of modern escapism.
