Indie Electronic
Indie Electronic music popped up in the late 1990s, when a gaggle of enterprising musicians decided that a computer could be their best mate, possibly to avoid talking to anyone. The sound is a delightful cocktail of synthetic beats, melodic flourishes, and perhaps the deliberate choice to make you ponder what on earth you just heard. Its influence has been so pervasive that you'll find it playing in cafés, bars, and, for some reason, yoga classes, proving it really is the soundtrack to the hipster revolution.
