Girl Group
Girl groups burst onto the music scene in the early 1960s, primarily in America, where an alarming number of young women harmonised sweetly about love and heartbreak, often whilst donning matching outfits and enormous beehives. Their sound is typically characterised by catchy melodies, rich vocal harmonies, and lyrics that could make even the most stoic of listeners sigh nostalgically. Interestingly, their influence has endured, with modern artists somehow managing to convince the rest of us that singing about a crush is the height of sophistication.
