Emo

Emo originated in the mid-1980s Washington D.C. punk scene, when musicians realised that expressing feelings could be just as punk as smashing guitars. Characterised by confessional lyrics, melodic hooks, and the occasional over-the-top emotional outburst, it sounds like someone pouring their heart out whilst also wondering where they left their eyeliner. Though often associated with moody teenagers, it has managed to evolve and remain popular, proving that angst is indeed a lifelong companion for many.
