Doom Metal

Doom metal emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, birthed from the dark womb of heavy rock, or perhaps their parents simply played too many Black Sabbath records on repeat. Characterised by sludgy riffs, plodding tempos, and vocals that sound like they’ve just regressed from a hearty midlife crisis, it’s the musical equivalent of strolling through a graveyard, but in a really cool outfit. The genre’s fans often embrace its melancholy themes as an art form; after all, who wouldn’t want to revel in existential dread whilst nodding their heads slowly in unison?
