Darkwave

Darkwave emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, primarily from the post-punk scene in Europe, because apparently the world needed a soundtrack for those particularly moody nights. It's characterised by haunting synths, melancholic melodies, and vocals that often range from ethereal to downright broody—ideal for when you've got existential dread and plenty of black clothing. This genre has managed to carve out a niche for itself, especially amongst fans who enjoy dance floors lit only by dim purple lighting and an atmosphere thicker than the fog in a horror film.
